Come 2 Soon

And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares. For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth. Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.
Luke 21:34-36

As Jesus is closing his message about the impending destruction of the temple and the last days, he closes with a warning to remain vigilant.  It is a message that many will wish they had listened to as soon as the church has been pulled from this world.  This same scenario, being unprepared for crucial acts of God, has played out often in the Bible.  God sent a messenger to warn the guilty and call for repentance, but they mocked the calling of God to repent and believe only to realize too late that God had come 2 soon.

Noah preached the message of a flood for 120 years.  The world laughed and mocked and scoffed and ridiculed.  Then the ark was ready.  God's patience was finished.  The door on the ark slammed shut and the clouds began to gather.  As the waters arose they clawed at the door and begged for help from the man they abused and mocked.  Even if Noah would have wanted to help he could not.  God, Himself, had closed the door and sealed the fate of those who would not hear His plea to turn from wickedness.

Like today, there were warnings.  The boat was done--what more did they need to see? Noah's grandfather, Methusaleh, was a sign as well.  His godly great grandfather, Enoch, who also warned the mockers had named this man, Methusaleh.  His name was prophetic.  It meant "his death shall bring."  Another thought is "man of the dart/sword."  God would bring the sword to humanity once this man died.  Jewish tradition says that Methusaleh died seven days prior to the onset of the flood.  After the grieving period, the flood came.  God gave forewarning.

God sent forewarning to Sodom too.  He sent two angels.  The lust blind men of the city didn't listen; arrogantly, they only wished to rape God's messengers.  Just as Noah's generation was warned, Lot's was too.  When the angels pulled despondent Lot and his family from the city, the fire of God's wrath came.  Like those Jesus is warning about that future event when He calls His church and plunges the world into tribulation, Lot's wife looked back on the wicked cities with sorrow.  They were the last things she saw.  Many today look too much on this world and look not at what matters.  This world is temporary and life is fleeting.  God is eternal, His heaven is eternal, and those who choose life and eternity over death and what is temporary will forever  bless His name!

What about you?  Where are your affections?  Will you be one so blinded by the temporary trinkets of Vanity Fair that you fail to see the signs that the fair is about to end?  Will you be so busy eating and drinking or buying and selling or generally having a good time that you realize that Jesus has come 2 soon?  There is still time to make the right and wise decision.  Turn now!  Turn to Jesus.  He is soon 2 come.  Don't realize 2 late that Christ has Come 2 Soon!

"And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all. Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all. Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed."
