The Rapture in the Old Testament

"For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock."
 Psalm 27:5

There are several Old Testament verses that hint at a hiding of believers before a trying time of judgement on earth. These very verses seem to match the New Testament concept found in 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18. Here are two of those verses. Always notice the mention of the Day of the Lord or a time of trouble.

"Come, my people, enter thou into thy chambers, and shut thy doors about thee: hide thyself as it were for a little moment, until the indignation be overpast. For, behold, the LORD cometh out of his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity: the earth also shall disclose her blood, and shall no more cover her slain." Isaiah 26:20-21

"Seek ye the LORD, all ye meek of the earth, which have wrought his judgment; seek righteousness, seek meekness: it may be ye shall be hid in the day of the LORD'S anger." Zephaniah 2:3

This hiding must be close, but we are still called to occupy until He comes. We still need to intercede for our world, nation, state, family, and friends. Don't you want them to be hidden too?
Not only do we want them hidden, but we also want the tide of wickedness to turn away from America as well!

Today, it seems to be one of the darkest points in the nation. Where did the early church have its greatest successes early on? In Asia Minor. This is the very region of Turkey and part of the 10/40 window that has less than 1% of a Christian population. Were the rapture to take place there, they would not even miss that number! Drought!

The post-exhilic prophet, Haggai, was deeply burdened by God to see the restoration of the temple in Jerusalem. While many deportees had returned, they were more concerned about their personal lives than they were the things God willed. YHWH allowed a drought to begin to consume the land as a result. "Ye looked for much, and, lo, it came to little; and when ye brought it home, I did blow upon it. Why? saith the LORD of hosts. Because of mine house that is waste, and ye run every man unto his own house." Haggai 1:9 Beware of those who constantly preach "blessing" over a heart changing relationship with Christ!

There is a huge disconnect with the concept that godless behavior eventually brings crisis. The noxious plague of immorality in this nation coupled with a spineless group of "believers" who feel the Almighty is merely a celestial sugar daddy who wishes nothing more than to fulfill their every wish and fancy are leading us ever closer to an encounter with the ferociousness of God's holy fury. We must repent and humble ourselves before His Royal Holiness!

Three months after this first message, Haggai was given another interesting message. " Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Ask now the priests concerning the law, saying, If one bear holy flesh in the skirt of his garment, and with his skirt do touch bread, or pottage, or wine, or oil, or any meat, shall it be holy? And the priests answered and said, No. Then said Haggai, If one that is unclean by a dead body touch any of these, shall it be unclean? And the priests answered and said, It shall be unclean. Then answered Haggai, and said, So is this people, and so is this nation before me, saith the LORD; and so is every work of their hands; and that which they offer there is unclean." Haggai 2:11-14

Like the prior message, this word from the Lord addresses the loss of harvest. God asks two opposing questions. Priests would often carry sanctified food in a fold in their garment. (see Leviticus 6:27) The query is whether this sanctified food causes profane (common) food to be clean. The priests answer, no. Then God asks if one who touches a corpse will cause defilement to the holy meal. The answer is yes. Our personal holiness cannot make another holy. Every man must choose repentance for himself. They must turn to God through Christ individually. On the other hand, the defilement of dead things runs through a society like an infectious disease. Notice that is the Message here, "So is this people, and so is this nation before me, saith the LORD;" Moral defilement can infect all who touches it thereby causing the defilement of death. Anything that is unclean and corrupt causes all it touches to be corrupt. Would you eat a hamburger setting on a decomposing carcass? Most sane people would not.

Maybe the loss of a spiritual harvest is connected with our lackadaisical attitude towards the things of God? Maybe there is a direct correlation with our lack of seeking His face through contrite prayer and the moral condition of our land? Maybe our failure to repent of known sin is causing us to lose this nation to false ideologies and religion? It could be that our flirting with the dead and corrupt things of this world has caused a situation where all we touch becomes defiled?

There is an answer. Defilement by a dead body was a serious problem. It took a seven day cleansing period involving the ashes of the famed red heifer. On the 8th day the offender was pronounced clean. The ashes are a type of the cross. The seven days speak of a perfect, complete cleansing. The 8th day is the type for a new beginning. America's only hope is deep, heart rending contrition. Nothing short of absolute repentance and humility before God can turn the tide of judgment. We must humble ourselves before the mighty hand of God.

Will you consider joining one of the prayer movements calling for a repentant nation? There is a very important event next Sunday. To sign up and take part go to http://www.call2fall.com/ also consider joining http://www.awakeningamerica.us/ . Please help in prayer, humility, and repentance! Our only salvation for this nation is Jesus Christ! We must proclaim our blessed Savior once again. Your nation--my nation depends on a great awakening!

Here is a good reason to turn and pray. If you don't, false religion and godless ideologies will fill the void and then sudden and complete destruction will follow.

An Immutable God

For I am the LORD, I change not; Malachi 3:6a

Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever. Hebrews 13:8

Immutability is one of God's very important attributes. He does not change on us from day to day. While men and women can change, the Lord is always consistent and trustworthy. Wouldn't it be awful if God did change His requirements for us from time to time? Thank the Lord for being ever true!

The verse, Hebrews 13:8, seems out of place at first. Look at it in its immediate context. "Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation. Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever. Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines. For it is a good thing that the heart be established with grace; not with meats, which have not profited them that have been occupied therein." Hebrews 13:7-9 Doesn't this statement seem to just pop in and interrupt a thought? Maybe the author was distracted and just put a filler verse in? No, he is speaking about believers being in subjection to godly authority in verse 7. He has asked them to follow the faith example of their leaders in Christ. Then he mentions that Jesus never changes. The message--if your pastor fails you; remember, Jesus never fails as He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Then he exhorts the believers to also be steadfast and unmovable like Jesus. Become established in His grace and beware of those who twist and contort the scriptures to their own foolishness.

Changing the meaning of scripture is another end time sign. As men approach the tribulation there will be a tendency to turn God's grace into a license for sin. Shall we sin that grace may abound? Paul said clearly God forbid! (Romans 6:2 & 6:15) Also note the warning of Jude 1:4, "For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ." If you do slip we have an advocate with the Father--Jesus Christ the righteous and immutable.

Many ministers and believers are failing the Lord today! They seem to believe that God has changed His mind about sin. "What was sinful in Sodom and Gomorrah need not apply to us", they think. Gloatingly, they believe, "we are more modern and civilized today and we seem to have better understanding of God's love". I must remind you, God does not change. He is both loving and awesome! Our God is a consuming fire. His anger is terrible and greatly to be feared. If murdering innocent children brought judgment to those throwing their children to idols like Molech or killing all the female children in preference of males as happened in Roman society, then God still hates abortion even when our media blatantly calls it a choice. If He judged suddenly Sodom and the tribe of Benjamin for homosexuality in the past, He will judge all those who practice this sin and fail to repent. Nearly all of the men in Benjamin were destroyed by the other tribes for this sin. It took God's intervention to keep this tribe in existence. (Judges 20-21)

There is a way out. Repent! Turn around! Walk back to Him in broken humility. Thank God! He has not changed His mind about saving those who call upon the name of the Lord!
