But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.
1 Thessalonians 5:1-4
I'm back! So glad to be. The last couple of weeks were hectic, and I noticed that every November seems to be a crazy month for me over the last few years.
In this section of scripture there seems to be two opposing ideas. One is simple and easy to discern. The Day of the LORD will come upon on the earth as a thief in the night suddenly and unexpected. Yet, it also says that when they say "peace and safety" then disaster hits the world like a woman's labor pains. Labor pains may surprise at first, but they come at regular intervals afterwards. So which is it? Does this time come so quick as to be unannounced or does it come at a time that could be discernible? The answer is both!
For the world and worldly believers, the Day of the Lord will come at a time when they are not paying attention. Most of the world is in party mode currently. We have all the latest advances in technology to keep us in a fog. Whether it is sports, our favorite television reality show, or some other distraction, most are so caught up with their own little world that the Coming of the Tribulation and the destruction associated with it will be an absolute unannounced and unexpected event.
For as the lightning, that lighteneth out of the one part under heaven, shineth unto the other part under heaven; so shall also the Son of man be in his day.
Luke 17:24
At the same time, those who are watching and sober (v.6) can see that there have been growing labor pains over the last few decades. Even though a woman has a due date, it is rare for a child to be born on that day. Even as the pains start the exact moment of birth is still a mystery. However, the pains are a sure sign that the child is on the way. We are watching the pains that are indicating the coming of Jacob's Trouble and the Rapture of Christ's redeemed. Are you one who will be caught unawares, or are you watching and sober?
Soon, we will look at some of the many, many labor pains. Even with this, if you need Christ--don't hesitate to accept Him today! Jesus Christ is truly Soon 2 Come!!
Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night.
